Set to the outer wall of the WK10, the latest of 10 housing complexes constructed in Hoyerswerda between the 1950ies and 1980ies .
During East German Socialist (DDR) times Hoyerswerda´s population grew dramatically with the expansion of the DDR coal industry. With every expansion, the socialist government would build additional housing complexes for the growing workforce.
The result is a timeline into DDR history, its rise and fall.
German Reunification saw the collapse of the socialist economy.
Industries such as coal disintegrated and its centers experienced massive migrations to the west. Today cities like Hoyerswerda are expecting to have lost up to 75% of there pre-unification population by 2025. They are becoming ghost towns without purpose.
