Under the pavement the beach. an introduction to the theory of lé derive urban drift.
"All cities are geological: you cannot take three steps without encountering ghosts bearing all the prestige of there legends. We move within a closed landscape whose landmarks constantly draw us towards the past. Certain shifting angles, certain receding perspectives, allow us to glimpse original conception of space, but this vision remains fragmentary. It must be sought in the magical locales of fairy tales and surrealist writing: castles, endless walls, little forgotten bars, man-moth caverns, casino mirrors."

Chtcheglov felt that our imagination is haunted by old archetypes, that we are hypnotized by production and convenience. He felt that in out rush to escape "cosmic reality' (as opposed to bourgeois reality) we have lost the corresponding dream-life.The reasons are according to Chtcheglov clear : dreams spring from reality and are realized in it.
If one could return to a cosmic reality one could realize the Temple of the sun (utopia).
He imagined such a place as a city in constant drift. People would move with the weather or just according to there mood. Ones house could be at the beach for sunrise and in the hills for sunset. It would be a modulating reality in accordance with the eternal spectrum of human desires .
The locating and creation of such urban spaces could be done applying pshycogeographical investigation in accordance with the theories of the drift. .......
